3 Minutes Peaceful Pause: When you need calmness fast!

No time for a retreat, a cave, or twenty minutes on a cushion. Four minutes, wherever you are standing right now.

About 4 minutes with Steven Webb's calm voice.

Shake out your arms, let the body drop, and follow one line all the way through: breathing in calm, breathing out relax. A thought turns up, you do nothing with it. A noise turns up, you do nothing with that either. That is the whole practice, and it is the bit you can take back out into the day.

Treat me to a coffee, keep the podcast free, and get my Weekly Calm every Sunday. It is all on stevenwebb.uk

Thank you for sitting with me.

Stevens new course: Finding Peace in Everyday Life (you choose how much to pay)

Transcript
Steven Webb:

Sometimes in this really crazy, busy world, we need to relax quickly. And we don't have a long time to

Steven Webb:

sit in a cave or go on retreat and meditate for 10, 20, 30 minutes. But we do need to

Steven Webb:

quieten the mind and quieten the body. And we just need that moment of calmness. And that's what this meditation

Steven Webb:

is for. To have a moment of calmness when we need it most. So we start off just simply

Steven Webb:

relaxing the body and we do this by allowing the body to relax. So you can do this with me

Steven Webb:

now.

Steven Webb:

So shake out your arms and just allow them to sit down next to you. Maybe place your hands on

Steven Webb:

your legs.

Steven Webb:

Gently allow your eyes to close or just soften your gaze a few feet in front of you.

Steven Webb:

And become aware of your breath.

Steven Webb:

Just breathing in calm, Breathing out relax.

Steven Webb:

And now we'll invite our bodies to relax the same time.

Steven Webb:

Allow your shoulders to relax. Allow

Steven Webb:

your arms to relax.

Steven Webb:

Allow your neck and your face and the top of your head.

Steven Webb:

Allow your torso and your legs to relax.

Steven Webb:

Your body knows how to relax just as it knows how to breathe.

Steven Webb:

We don't need to interfere. We don't need to force it in any way. And

Steven Webb:

this moment just becomes calmer.

Steven Webb:

And you may notice the way the mind goes quieter.

Steven Webb:

You may notice the way the body knows how to relax.

Steven Webb:

Notice you don't have to do anything with this moment.

Steven Webb:

If a thought comes into your mind, you can just smile and you don't have to do anything with it.

Steven Webb:

If

Steven Webb:

you hear any noise, you don't have to do anything with it. If any feelings come up, you don't have

Steven Webb:

to do anything with them.

Steven Webb:

How wonderful it is just to be able to sit here and you don't have to do anything with it.

Steven Webb:

And you can carry this feeling with you throughout the day. And remember that whatever comes up, even if we're

Steven Webb:

awake and we've got our eyes open and we're focused and paying attention, you don't have to do anything with

Steven Webb:

everything that arises. We can choose what to do with each given moment. We can choose what to do with

Steven Webb:

each emotion and with each thought. So

Steven Webb:

if you gently open your eyes, shake out your arms and just carry this wisdom with you throughout the day.

Steven Webb:

I'm Steven Webb and my other podcast, Stillness in the Storms, will help you to see life a little bit

About the Podcast

Inner Peace Meditations
Short guided meditations for people who cannot meditate. No jargon, no complicated breathing, no promises. Around fourteen minutes. Always free.
Short guided meditations for people who cannot meditate.

That is not a joke, it is the actual brief. If you have ever tried one of these and spent the whole time thinking about whether you were doing it right, then went back to scrolling, these are for you.

I am Steven Webb. I have ADHD and dyslexia, and my mind has never once gone quiet. I stopped trying to make it. That turned out to be the whole thing.

You do not have to empty your head. You never did. The thoughts are not the problem, your relationship with them is.

Most of these run around fourteen minutes. Morning ones to start the day a bit lighter. Evening ones to let the day settle. Some for anxiety, some for anger, some for the nights when sleep is not happening.

No complicated breathing. No visualisations you cannot hold. No promises about who you will be in thirty days.

Free, and staying free.

Steven Webb has been paralysed from the chest down since 1991. He teaches from the mess, not from the mountaintop.
