The 5-Minute Reset: A Simple Meditation for Busy Minds

The meditation for non meditators and anyone who cannot shut their head up. Five minutes, and it works by not trying.

About 5 minutes with Steven Webb's calm voice.

Sit down to quieten your mind and the mind treats it as a party invitation. Sit down to quieten your body and the mind goes, fine, I can do that. So we do the body and let the head follow it. A nice little trick to have.

Treat me to a coffee, keep the podcast free, and get my Weekly Calm every Sunday. It is all on stevenwebb.uk

Transcript
Steven Webb:

Welcome to a quick five minute reset. The meditation for non-meditators and those

Steven Webb:

that cannot shut off their mind.

Steven Webb:

So first of all, let's just relax into this moment.

Steven Webb:

Just allow your shoulders to relax. Allow your arms to relax.

Steven Webb:

Allow your face to relax.

Steven Webb:

And bring your focus to your breath.

Steven Webb:

Notice that you're breathing in

Steven Webb:

And notice you're breathing out.

Steven Webb:

And remember you don't have to force your body to relax. Just allow your muscles to relax and they know

Steven Webb:

what to do.

Steven Webb:

And as you feel your body relaxing on each out breath, just imagine breathing in calm and breathing out relax.

Steven Webb:

And relax.

Steven Webb:

Allow your face to relax.

Steven Webb:

And even the muscles around your eyes and your jaw and your neck.

Steven Webb:

Notice how everything becomes slightly quieter.

Steven Webb:

Notice you don't have to do anything to quieten your mind. You just have to allow your body to relax

Steven Webb:

and bring your attention to your breath. And your mind automatically goes quiet by itself.

Steven Webb:

And if your mind does wander, just smile. And thank you for the thought. Really appreciate it. And just bring

Steven Webb:

it back to your breath.

Steven Webb:

Your mind's got a job. Your mind's job is to think.

Steven Webb:

We shouldn't ever get frustrated with the mind thinking. We just give it something to do and just invite it

Steven Webb:

to sit with us while we just focus on our breath,

Steven Webb:

breathing in calm, breathing out relaxed.

Steven Webb:

And if something does grab your attention like a sound coming in, a taste or maybe an itch, just appreciate

Steven Webb:

the fact that it was there, that you were able to notice it and smile and bring it back to

Steven Webb:

your breath. I'm breathing in and

Steven Webb:

I'm breathing out.

Steven Webb:

You don't have to do anything with your breath.

Steven Webb:

Your body knows how to breathe.

Steven Webb:

And in a moment, we're just going to come back and look around and be part of the environment again.

Steven Webb:

And there you go. We've just meditated. We've just had that quiet moment. And notice how your mind quietens

Steven Webb:

down all by itself. When we sit down to try and quieten the mind, the mind thinks that's like a

Steven Webb:

party. But if we sit down and quiet in the body, the mind just goes okay I can do this.

Steven Webb:

It's

Steven Webb:

a nice little trick to have. Whenever you need a little time out, just go and relax. Breathe in calm.

Steven Webb:

Breathe out, relax. And there you go. I'm Steven Webb, the host of Stillness in the Storms podcast. Podcast

Steven Webb:

that helps you to think differently and have a little more inner peace in life. And if these help you

Steven Webb:

out in any way, or you can buy me a coffee over at thankyousteven.com. Take care. Have a wonderful day.

About the Podcast

Inner Peace Meditations
Short guided meditations for people who cannot meditate. No jargon, no complicated breathing, no promises. Around fourteen minutes. Always free.
Short guided meditations for people who cannot meditate.

That is not a joke, it is the actual brief. If you have ever tried one of these and spent the whole time thinking about whether you were doing it right, then went back to scrolling, these are for you.

I am Steven Webb. I have ADHD and dyslexia, and my mind has never once gone quiet. I stopped trying to make it. That turned out to be the whole thing.

You do not have to empty your head. You never did. The thoughts are not the problem, your relationship with them is.

Most of these run around fourteen minutes. Morning ones to start the day a bit lighter. Evening ones to let the day settle. Some for anxiety, some for anger, some for the nights when sleep is not happening.

No complicated breathing. No visualisations you cannot hold. No promises about who you will be in thirty days.

Free, and staying free.

Steven Webb has been paralysed from the chest down since 1991. He teaches from the mess, not from the mountaintop.
